New Frustration-Free Packaging Designs Released for Amazon Vendors

Amazon vendors, your packaging frustrations may be coming to an end (if you sell the right products).

Amazon is hoping to make life easier for their vendors by releasing innovative new designs for its Frustration-Free Packaging program. According to Packaging Digest, Amazon has just unveiled reversible, inside-printed gift boxes that will make packaging certain kinds of products a lot easier (and reduce the likelihood of chargebacks).

Background

Amazon announced on June 1, 2021 that it would expand its FFP incentive program to millions of new products. The idea is to create one streamlined packaging solution that many vendors can use.

The program launched in 2018 for products in the categories of durable goods, consumables, and soft goods larger than 18x14x8 inches or 20 pounds or more. This latest expansion of the FFP program would include smaller items of 6x4x0.375 inches and larger (but still under the 18x14x8 or 20 pounds measurement).

Vendors who sell things like books, toys, beauty products, and things of that size can participate in this program.

What's In It for Vendors?

Amazon is providing additional support for this program, including a Frustration-Free Packaging website that provides all of the resources a vendor might need to participate. That includes training videos, step-by-step guides, and case studies to show how the program would work in a real-life situation.

But why should Amazon vendors take part in the program? FFP represents an opportunity for them in a few ways.

  • Differentiation: By offering this new type of packaging that can also be used as gift-wrapping, vendors are better able to utilize branding and differentiate themselves from their competitors.

  • Fewer Chargebacks: Because this is Amazon-approved packaging, the products are less likely to get dinged for packaging problems on Amazon's end. This results in fewer chargebacks and saves you money in the long run.

  • Streamlined Logistics: The FFP program makes packaging less of a hassle, and reduces overall logistics and packaging costs.

  • Happier Customers: Customers have asked Amazon to send products in less packaging, so by using this new FFP packaging that does this, vendors are doing a better job at pleasing their customers.

  • Environmental Benefits: While this may not impact your bottom line as a company, FFP packaging is sustainable and aims to be a step toward a goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2040 for the company — so you'd be doing your part to help save the planet.
