Digital Marketing Intern (Filled)
Reason Automation (reasonautomation.com) is a data processing & automation startup that simplifies Amazon data for business users. We understand all facets of enterprise e-commerce data—from which KPIs matter, to building reliable data pipelines, to structuring that data for analysis. Our team ran weekly business reviews and deep dives for some of Earth’s largest consumer brands.
Now our goal is to help brands manage their businesses the same way Amazon does—with insights powered by big data. We believe democratizing access to data creates more durable, scalable businesses, whether you are a manufacturer, seller, distributor, consultant, or agency. Reason serves that mission by bringing financial, retail, advertising, and brand data out of Amazon systems and into software our customers already use.
The Marketing function
Our marketing mental model: we earn attention through generosity and excellence. Free, actually-helpful content earns us interest from prospects. Top-tier service earns us referrals from current customers. The marketing function is responsible for launching and running distribution channels for our content, service, and discussions thereof. These include:
SEO-optimized website content, such as blog posts
Educational, thought-leadership documents, such as whitepapers
Organic social, such as LinkedIn through the company + executive accounts
Automated email programs + sequences, such as onboarding
Mass emails, like feature release notifications
Instrumentation and telemetry that let us measure and optimize performance
What you’ll be doing
Reason is a small SaaS startup where you will get more direct exposure to marketing, sales, and technical processes than a corporate intern. This comes at a cost: you will have less structure, guardrails, documentation, and peer support than you might receive with a big corporation. The right candidate will be excited by the chance to do “real work” that impacts our customers and near-term business prospects. As a Digital Marketing Intern, that means advancing many different demand generation activities, from content creation to campaign optimization, while helping report on and analyze the results.
1. Marketing campaign preparation and analysis. You will help drive our outbound marketing activities in partnership with third-party agencies, while reporting on results to other Reason team members.
Audit outbound campaign target lists, by researching recipients and adding contact/company exclusions
Help our marketing agency monitor organic channels like LinkedIn and YouTube for engagement opportunities, e.g. threads worth replying to
Update + communicate weekly traffic + lead gen reports to marketing stakeholders
2. Sales enablement. Help our sales team move deals forward throughout the pipeline.
Create mechanisms for tracking and surfacing 30-day trial account expirations to the sales team.
Help launch + maintain onboarding automation workflows in Hubspot.
Work with the sales + product teams to identify and implement improvements to our demo follow-up strategy, such as pitch deck updates.
3. Content creation & distribution strategy. Identify opportunities/gaps in our current content suite and work with agency partners + Reason team members on improvements.
Work with our agency partners to create and amplify thought-leadership content (e.g. CEO interviews, white papers)
Work with the customer success team to overhaul our self-service Help Center to (1) update content for accuracy, and (2) prepare for product line expansion
You should expect to work in the following tools:
Hubspot — our sales CRM and marketing automation platform
Notion — internal knowledgebase and wiki
Google Analytics + Search Console — traffic and organic search metrics
pgAdmin — SQL workbench for PostgreSQL
Squarespace — our website/CMS back-end
Airtable — cloud database tool that houses our data dictionary and report metadata
Microsoft Power BI — main BI visualization tool
YouTube Studio — publishing and managing videos
Google Workplace — docs, sheets, etc.

Reason Automation expects employees to embrace these principles:
Act with Kindness. Kindness is a choice, not a personality trait. Nobody is perfect but it’s important that we choose to be generous in our interactions with each other. The world is full of brilliant jerks who can create amazing things—at other companies.
Be of Service. Service is the act of helping or doing work for someone. We created a service business because we are motivated by hard work and helping others. By empathizing with customers, we help shoulder their problems and share their joy in success.
Be Curious. There is a direct relationship between success and your desire to learn and improve yourself. As a small, young company we depend on each other’s natural curiosity and tenacity to stay engaged while working remotely.
Deliver Results. Reason’s mission is to create more successful, durable businesses for our clients. Fulfilling that mission takes a relentless focus to deliver work on-time at high quality. There is no faster way to earn trust, with customers or with each other.
